The Heart Walk is the American Heart Association’s largest annual fundraising event, mobilizing millions nationwide to support cardiovascular research. As a national campaign with local execution, it required a scalable, flexible digital system that delivered a unified brand message while empowering local teams to engage their communities effectively through email, social media, and Salesforce-driven communications.

Deliver a national fundraising campaign that is consistent, engaging, and flexible—allowing hundreds of local teams to adapt messaging while maintaining brand cohesion. The system needed to scale across email and social channels, support annual themes, and meet accessibility standards, all while inspiring participation and ensuring creative quality.

As the Digital Design Lead/Senior Interactive Art Director, I led the UX/UI strategy and creative execution across email journeys, Salesforce integrations, and social media content templates. I unified designers, developers, and field teams around a shared vision, ensuring each annual theme translated consistently across touchpoints.

Responsive Design Matters
Responsive and accessible web design ensures that digital content is usable and readable for everyone, regardless of device or ability. Fluid layouts and percentage-based sizing allow emails and websites to automatically adjust for optimal viewing—from large desktop monitors to small smartphones. By incorporating accessibility best practices like touch-friendly buttons, high-contrast colors, descriptive alt text, and clean code, designers create experiences that are inclusive and easy to navigate. This approach not only improves usability for people with disabilities but also enhances engagement for all users.
Dynamic Experiences
By using simple dynamic content such as the Heart Walk countdown, we created a sense of urgency and engagement. Registration went up and users continued to share their participation through social platforms.
Salesforce empowers nonprofits and organizations to coordinate fundraising timelines and event outreach through integrated email and social media tools. With Marketing Cloud and platform integrations, users can automate responsive email campaigns, segment audiences, and track engagement—all within the CRM. Social media integration enables scheduled posts, real-time interaction tracking, and unified messaging across channels. Together, these features streamline campaign coordination, boost visibility, and ensure consistent, accessible communication from launch to goal completion.
